how now, karabao?

Have you ever heard of CowParade? The Web site says it is the world’s largest public art event. What is it? There are a bunch of cow sculptures that go from city to city, with artists in each new place painting the cows, which are then featured all around the city.

Someone from here came up with a similar idea, using the iconic karabao, a tame version of the water buffalo introduced to Guam by the Spanish way back when.

There are a bunch around Guam, in several different poses. Here are two that are in Hagåtña. I'll try to get pics of more of them as I can. ;)

we got something you ain't got ...

Click on the image below for a larger, more detailed picture.

This is a picture of the drive-through order menu at the Hagåtña McDonald's.
Look at the bottom right, under breakfast specials. Any of your Mickey D's offer Portuguese sausage and eggs and white rice? Spam and eggs and white rice? "Local" breakfast with white rice?

Didn't think so.

Tabasco available upon request.

boonie trees ...

the tangantangan was used to reforest Guam after World War II.
it is ubiquitous now and grows like crazy. we locals like to use it
for firewood (the bigger, thickers trees). this photo shows off
its seed pods, which helps it spread even further.
